This year Marvel samples

Other thing that I need to stop, like the use of black frames, is this need to do every year Marvel samples. Like anyone on the industry I will love , for a while to work for one of the mayors, but sometimes is really disappointing when you spend your time in some samples that they ask you for and you don't get never and answer back.

Still , I guess I still have at east a couple of years  more to keep trying before I change my career and start to create Cheese instead comic books.

You can see the rest of the pages ( 5 in total ) in the Marvel samples section of this blog

Action Johnson

This the first page of a short story for Action Johnson with script by Nic J Shaw ( creator of the character).
I had a lot of fun with this . Nic gave me lots of freedom , think that I love + the character is as crazy as D4ve with a lot of fun stuff to work with.

One of the things that I just realize I need to start to do is to stop using black frames. Love them but they are not always  the best choice.

BORN IN HELL

This is a drawing of Ferran Xalabarder (provably you know who he is if you are a reader of Heavy Metal). I have done this colour test looooooong ago . Is a pity that Ferran couldn't fine the time to work in  the "sequel" of Born In Hell (only in Spanish).

If you are a US publisher , you are wasting the time of your life if you don't ask Ferran to pitch you this (there is not much of a need for a pitch if you see the art work on the pages: from another word).

Old test

Long ago ( I think it was even before I had started to work on D4ve) I had done a test for Quincy Bonobo that didn't worked out. But still, I really like the pages and the character design.

I had done the page pretty quick , so there is lots of things that look awkward  ( guess this is way I didn't get the gig) but the colour palette is one of the things that I like the most.

D4VE 5 (this is the end , my only friend)

The last issue of D4ve is been on sale for a while now, but I been busy enough to forget completely about my blog and about the good forms.

So if you didn't read it yet you still can for only $99

Actually , for a little more ( not even $5) you can read the whole series.

LOVE RYAN FERRIER

I love to copy-paste the posts that Ryan Ferrier creator of D4ve have in his Tumbler page ( hum, instead to copy/paste  I should open my own Tumbler page...if I can find the time)

Are you shittin’ bolts? Day job got you down? Battling a midlife crisis? We’ve got the cure.
1. Get the complete series of D4VE right now, all five issues for less than $5https://www.comixology.com/D4VE/comics-series/12653.
2. Rip this tune while you read them.
3. Party on.

DOC UNKNOW PIN-UP

Another Pin-Up this time for Fabian Rangel JR's DOC UNKOW. If you have been reading IMAGE's Five Ghosts I'm sure that you know something about Doc Unknow.

Copy /pasting Ryan ( Ferrier):
If you’re unfamiliar (which you shouldn’t be), DOC UNKNOWN is the crazy-cool hit comic from writer Fabian Rangel Jr. and artist Ryan Cody. Check out the first four issues right here on comixology—I know they’ve got more on the way. It’s very great comics.

ENORMOUS PIN-UP

This a Pin-up for  Tim Daniel's Unormous . If you don't know nothing about this massive ( and not only for the size) comic book something is wrong with you .

THE NEW FLAME 2

For long time I had been going around and idea and looks like now , finally is going to be the time.  Even when still on the works this design of the Flame is almost a final one.

Somewhere on this blog you can see the old versions of the same character. Some one told me that this character looks a lot like the Atomic Skull. I needed to goggle it cos I didn't know this character and , damn, it look too similar.  Is a pity because is kind of imperative for me that the helmet of the Flame must be a skull.

Let's see how I'll sort out this.

The Tag line is the title of and album of Mogway.

D4VE (4) READY FOR PRE-ORDER

You can pre-order you digital copy on Comixology

D4ve (3) preview

While this series continues to be impressive, Valentin Ramon is more impressive. How he’s able to keep up with his level of quality is insane.
D4VE continues to be possibly the best digital comic of this year and shows no sign of slowing down. There is no other comic with this much humor, aliens, robots, and genuine feelings for just 99¢.
Ferrier lends such a unique and refreshing voice to “D4VE” that you’ll be smiling from ear to ear as you power through this engaging read.
Consistently humorous and as aesthetically pleasing as anything you’ll pull off the shelf this Wednesday, there isn’t much not to like about this book.
The unraveling story of D4VE is proving to be a real treat. The tension interlaced with the character interactions have so far made this a stellar series and issue 3 does not let the side down.

Heat up

This panel belongs to POH the web-comic that , one day , will see the light together with Mark Bertolini.

One of the things that i'm doing on POH ( and I shouldn't) is design the characters on the way. Problem , at the moment ,is that some of the characters look different in each panel because Im not following any order meanwhile I'm drawing, I'm jumping from page to page .I have some pages with one panel done, others two panels , so I need to go back quiet often to old panels to fix the uniforms.

Is , ate the moment, my most chaotic work.

Don't plan nothing for tomorrow. Future will come anyway

Diablo Rojo pitch pages

This are the pages for the pitch of Diablo Rojo that I had done a while ago with the help of Mark Bertolini on the words and Nik J Saw on the lettering.

We send the pitch just to Image and Avatar and , well , we didn't get any answer. I'm not surprise of it, looking now to the pages. Even if I still like the drawings and the idea I think I toke a wrong point of view for the story. Looking at this pages it looks like a silly action flick. And I wanted something else, no just a guy going around beating up the bud guys.

I got like around 30 b/w pages but I think I'm going to chuck them away and start over with the story, with a completely different approach, less focus on the guy with the funny dress and more focus on the story.

Anyway here are the original pages of the pitch.
